This ring is part of my new series of pieces inspired by historical shield forms.

The two shields are made of brass and have been hand-stamped with an dotted, ombre pattern. Sterling silver band.

Heater shields were a late medieval adaptation of the kite shields used by Norman soldiers during the Battle of Hastings in 1066 (as seen depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry). The lighter and more manageable form of the heater shield allowed for easier maneuvering on the battlefield and developed into specialized shields for jousting in the 15th century.
