This substantial ring is part of my new series of pieces inspired by historical shield forms. A beautifully ornate 16th century Milanese parade shield was the basis for my design. Because parade shields during the Renaissance were worn for display instead of actual battle, they were often adorned with gold and gems, like giant, knightly pieces of jewelry.
